First Prize: Four Year Full Tuition Scholarship
to the University of Miami
- The examination assumes the student has essentially
completed a year of high school physics. Calculators are not
allowed. A formula sheet will be provided.
- There will be individual and team competitions. For the
team competition the scores of the team members will be added.
Each examination will be graded blindly by
at least two University of Miami faculty members.
- The Competition in Physics will be open to teams of students
from accredited Florida high schools with their faculty approval.
A maximum of three students may enter from a high school.
- A four year full tuition scholarship to the University of
Miami will be awarded to the student winning the individual
competition. Continuation of the scholarship requires fulfillment
of University rules for full scholarship.
- There will be two plaques permanently mounted at the James
L. Knight Physics Building related to the competition. One plaque
will list the high schools, the names of the lead teachers and the
names of the students on the winning team. The other plaque will
list the individual first place winners and their high schools.
- The first three teams, their teachers and schools will be
honored with individual plaques and prizes at an awards ceremony
at the University of Miami.
- There is a $25.00 entrance fee for each high school.
Registration is via the World Wide Web using the site indicated
below. Web registration (including the names of the participating
students and the name of the physics instructor) must be completed
by Friday, April 16, 1999. The fee is due at the Department of
Physics, University of Miami by Friday, April 16, 1999.
- Students must arrive by 9:00 AM for registration. A light
breakfast and a light lunch will be provided. The examination
begins promptly at 9:30 AM and ends at 12:30 PM.
